The shift

For twenty years the deal was simple: you publish, Google ranks, readers click. That deal is being rewritten in real time. AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT and Perplexity now synthesize answers from a handful of sources — and the click, when it comes, goes to the sources they trust.

That doesn't make SEO obsolete. It makes the fundamentals non-negotiable: pages machines can crawl and parse, entities they can recognize, authority they can verify, and work original enough to be worth citing. GEO isn't a separate discipline with a separate vendor. It's what good search strategy looks like now.

Most teams are fighting this with yesterday's playbook — volume, keyword templates, and traffic reports that stopped telling the truth two core updates ago. I work on the system: what you publish, how it's built, how it's measured, and who owns it.

Framework

The Citation Stack

Five layers, bottom to top. An answer engine can only cite you if every layer below holds.

  1. 01

    Access

Crawling, rendering, speed, index hygiene, and the feeds and sitemaps Google News and Discover depend on.

  2. 02

    Understanding

Structured data, entities, taxonomy and internal linking that tell machines exactly what you are about.

  3. 03

    Authority

Author identity, sourcing, reputation and E-E-A-T signals a model can actually verify.

  4. 04

    Originality

First-party data, reporting, testing and point of view that an answer engine cannot get anywhere else.

  5. 05

    Measurement

Share of answer, citation tracking, Discover and News performance, and revenue per session — not just rank.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Is GEO different from SEO?

The surfaces are different; the foundations aren't. Answer engines lean on the same crawl, entity and authority signals search engines do, then add their own preferences for clear, citable, original sources. I treat it as one strategy with GEO-specific measurement and content work layered on.

Do you implement or advise?

I set strategy and technical direction, write the specs and review the work. Your developers, editors or agency execute. At the Fractional level I run the function, including vendors and hiring.

Can you guarantee rankings or traffic?

No one honest can. I commit to a clear diagnosis, a prioritized roadmap, agreed KPIs and a cadence for reporting against them.

How quickly will we see results?

Technical fixes can move numbers in weeks. Authority and content changes compound over quarters. The Diagnostic tells you which kind of problem you have.

Will you work with our existing agency?

Yes, and often. Many engagements are me setting direction and holding the agency to a higher standard.
